December 10th: Human Rights day

Human Rights Day is observed every year on 10 December. It commemorates the day on which, in 1948, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

And on the context of this year, the special rapporteurs of the United Nations Human Rights Council flagged that “The space for civil society, without which there can be no enduring and meaningful respect for rights, has been effectively closed down by many governments”.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon pointed: "And this work [Human Rights protection] can be done by all, at every level of society. States have the primary responsibility for upholding human rights. The United Nations, along with partners around the globe, must continue to strengthen responses to abuses, and work better to prevent human rights crises."
