Young Human Rights Defenders
Young Human Rights Defenders is a project led by Amnesty International, Action Aid and UNDP, that aims to strengthen the protection and recognition of youth and youth-led civil society organizations in defending human rights and freedoms by supporting young people to defend and promote their human rights and those of others. This collaboration was built through the Case4Space campaign.
Between December 6-8 2017, to commemorate International Human Rights Day, the three organizations joined forces to bring together 25 young activists from the region to the Young Human Rights Defenders Summit in Bangkok. The purpose of this event was to strengthen regional solidarity between young human rights defenders and to build their capacity to defend their rights and those of others in the context of shrinking civic space. Over the course of these three days, the young activists participated in workshops and networking sessions and were encouraged to produce their own action plans.
The Summit was the culmination of a call to action launched on September 21st 2017, which asked young people to show solidarity with young human rights activists by posting photos, videos and/or stories along with the hashtags #WeDefend and #YoungHRD.
